As the BPO industry continues its expansion, some sectors are already looking at knowledge- process outsourcing as another potential gold mine for the Philippines. Cirdia Ltd. is among those who are taking charge.
In recent years, the Philippines has been consistently known globally as the preferred destination for business-process outsourcing (BPO), particularly in voice and customer service back-office solutions. Apart from these capabilities, however, there are still a lot of high-value services that need further offshore promotion from the government and the industry, such as legal services, human resource delivery, animation, and architecture and design process delivery, among others.
“Actually, these high-value services that comprise what we call knowledge-process outsourcing [KPO] are considered the next wave of growth that will really help drive the country’s gross domestic product and provide jobs to more local talents. Together with academe and other industry partners, Cirdia, through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm, Cirdia Foundation, is working to beef up skills of our work force to make them more globally competitive,” said Catherine Ileto, president of Cirdia Foundation. According to a report from Everest Consulting, the Philippines accounted for 15 per cent of the offshore BPO market in 2008, and has emerged as a key destination for English-based work for ?the North American market. India holds the top slot with 35 per cent market share. But the Philippines is poised to take over the number one position in non-voice based outsourcing market soon, says the report. It has a sizeable presence in voice-based call centres, too. More...
